STORM IS BREWING

December 8, 2016 Diane Varner

A storm is brewing in my psyche. It’s whipping up waves and making me seasick. What is to become of our environment under the umbrella of the newly elected president and his appointees? Will all that has been environmentally gained, be lost? Will we, who respect and revere and honor nature, have a voice? Will we be able to protect our greatest natural resources… the wide, open and beautiful landscapes and seascapes, the wildlife, the air, the water, ourselves? Will we?

As a collective, I believe we can make a difference. But it will take action, any action. Whether it be in talking to your family, neighbors and community about what you see happening, donating to your favorite environmental agency, posting on blogs, writing on social media or even staging protests — any and all of it could possibly make a difference. I certainly am going to try to have my voice heard. I hope you will too.

US VETERANS DAY

November 11, 2016 Diane Varner

I thank all our US Veterans who have dedicated their lives and continue to do so for the freedom of every individual in this country. I believe it is time for all of us to to take a stand and speak up for what is right and good and true. Our uniform is our citizenship. May we wear it proudly and courageously in the months and years ahead.

AN INVITATION

November 9, 2016 Diane Varner

to spread beauty in this broken world
to embrace that which is difficult and make art…

to paint
to photograph
to write
to build
to sculpt
to stitch
to make melody

to express the ineffable, eternal presence within us and among us
to be the inspiring, uplifting voice that echoes beyond ourselves
to be an artist and creator of goodness

to begin today

(1 day after the 2016 election and presidential loss of Hillary Clinton.)
